I would not recommend them for serious use. The radios are really cool and we were able to get reception pretty far (about a mile). It was advertised with a charger but there was not a charger in the package. Also, we didn't get a charger with them. They were bought for my kids to play with (ages 7 and 8). These radios are toys.
That means that each tiny little bit you encounter in your life hurts you a little bit more. The poisoning is "cumulative". The residues can continue to poison your family for decades after you've gotten rid of these radios.
If your kids touch these and then eat or touch their faces or mouths, they can become retarded from lead poisoning nerve damage. Your kids will thank you for not being cheap and accidentally poisoning them.UPDATE:The poisonous lead residue can be left on doorknobs, walls, carpet, shoe laces, crayons, books, and anything else that gets touched while you have lead residue on your hands. These contain lead, it says so on packaging, but not when you buy online.
If your children have been using these, CLEAN EVERYTHING to prevent the migration of the lead to your children bodies. Children are the most vulnerable to lead poisoning, partly because they have to live with ongoing exposure to it longer than adults, who eventually will die of old age if the lead poisoning hasn't lasted long enough to kill them. You might as well feed your kids lead paint chips.
Seriously people, spend the extra few dollars and get a lead free Midland radio.
They play with them around the house and outside. They take one and I keep the other and we can be in constant contact if I can't be right there. The range is great. The radios work great. My boys like to fish at a pond down the street.
I would have expected at least NiMH batteries which would hold a charge longer. Bought a pair of these for the party to keep in touch on a camping trip. They seem to work fine. However, product features suggests the batteries supplied are Lithium Ion, in fact they are inferior Nickel Cadmium types.
they fit in your pocket real nice. i was in my cargo van about 2 miles from the house and my wife was inside the house and up and over a hill.
i would buy another set if i needed one. we could talk on the radios with no problem.
these radios work great. they have good sound quality.
another good part is that you can talk to other people that have radios. very easy to use.
make sure you lock it before you put in your pocket.
